The U.S. Department of State recently hosted 50 young scholars from Australia, India, Japan, the United States, and Southeast Asia in Washington, D.C. for the second Quad Fellowship Summit on October 7. This event marked the first inclusion of scholars from Southeast Asia since the program's inception in 2021.
The Quad Fellowship provides financial support for students pursuing graduate degrees in STEM fields at American universities. The program is administered by the Institute for International Education and aims to promote emerging technologies to benefit people across the Indo-Pacific region. It also seeks to enhance economic prosperity, openness, and connectivity.
During their visit, Quad Fellows engaged with representatives from both the private sector and U.S. government to discuss advancements in science and technology within the Indo-Pacific region. They also met with specialists working in science and technology within the U.S. government to explore how STEM research can bring tangible benefits to this area.
