DOJ considers Google divestment as antitrust case returns to court

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced its intention to request a judge to compel Google to divest parts of its business. This development is part of the ongoing antitrust case against Google, which will soon return to court for further deliberations on potential remedies.

The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA), known for its longstanding advocacy for competition in the technology sector, has previously supported the DOJ in similar cases involving major companies like IBM, AT&T, and Microsoft.

Matt Schruers, President and CEO of CCIA, commented on the DOJ's proposed remedy framework: "The DOJ’s proposed remedy framework in the Google Search case is a hodgepodge of structural and behavioral remedies, which goes far beyond Judge Mehta’s ruling. Any remedy should be narrowly tailored to address specific conduct, which in this case was a set of search distribution contracts. Instead, the proposed DOJ remedies would reshape numerous industries and products, which would harm consumers and innovation in these dynamic markets."
