Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra in Vientiane, Laos. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the ASEAN-U.S. Summit and East Asia Summit.
During the meeting, Secretary Blinken congratulated Prime Minister Paetongtarn on her recent appointment and the formation of a new cabinet. He emphasized the importance of the alliance between the United States and Thailand, highlighting shared goals such as cooperation in counternarcotics, investment and trade, and adherence to international law in the South China Sea.
Secretary Blinken expressed gratitude for Thailand's leadership within ASEAN and commended its efforts to address the ongoing conflict in Burma. He acknowledged Thailand's humanitarian support for those affected by this conflict.
