The United States has announced sanctions in response to Iran's recent actions against Israel on October 1. The measures aim to disrupt the revenue flow that Iran uses for its nuclear program, missile development, and support of terrorist activities.
The Department of State is sanctioning six entities involved in Iranian petroleum trade and has identified six vessels as blocked property. Simultaneously, the Department of the Treasury, with input from the Department of State, will impose sanctions on individuals operating within Iran's petroleum or petrochemical sectors. Additionally, ten entities and 17 vessels are being sanctioned for their role in shipping Iranian petroleum and petrochemical products linked to U.S.-designated entities like the National Iranian Oil Company or Triliance Petrochemical Co. Limited.
"The United States is committed to curtailing Iran’s sources of revenue for its malign activities," stated a representative. The statement emphasized continued efforts to hold Iran accountable as long as it funds attacks on allies and supports global terrorism.
These actions are authorized under Executive Orders 13902 and 13846, which provide the legal framework for determining sectors of Iran's economy subject to sanctions. Further details can be found in the Department Fact Sheet and Treasury’s press release.
