Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell is set to visit Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) from October 15-17, 2024. His agenda includes discussions with senior officials in both countries on enhancing regional security and cooperation.

In Japan, Campbell will engage with Japanese officials to address regional security threats. The talks will also focus on the co-production of defense technologies aimed at boosting deterrence capabilities in the region.

During his stay in Seoul, Campbell will meet with senior ROK officials. Discussions will center around fostering security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. Shared concerns over provocations by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on the Korean Peninsula are also expected to be a key topic.

Additionally, Deputy Secretary Campbell will participate in a U.S.-ROK-Japan Trilateral Deputy Secretary-Vice Foreign Ministerial meeting in Seoul. This high-level meeting includes Republic of Korea First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim and Japanese Vice Minister Okano. The dialogue aims to build on previous trilateral cooperation discussions held in Washington, Virginia, focusing on regional and global challenges such as DPRK threats and international law issues in the South China Sea.
