Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken held a conversation with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on October 15, 2024. The discussion centered around regional developments.
According to Spokesperson Matthew Miller, Secretary Blinken highlighted the necessity for a diplomatic resolution in Lebanon that adheres to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. This resolution aims to enable both Lebanese and Israeli civilians to return home safely.
Secretary Blinken expressed gratitude towards His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership and the Jordanian people's generosity in providing urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza and Lebanon. He stressed the importance of delivering more humanitarian assistance to Gaza and voiced concern over increasing instability in the West Bank.
Additionally, Secretary Blinken reaffirmed the United States' unwavering commitment to maintaining the historic status quo at Jerusalem's holy sites. He emphasized the urgency of reaching a ceasefire agreement for Gaza that would facilitate the return of hostages, ease suffering among Palestinians and Israelis, and ultimately conclude the ongoing conflict.
