Brazilian rap talent contest debuts on Netflix this November

Netflix is set to debut its first Brazilian musical reality show, "Rhythm and Flow: Brazil," with a trailer and poster now available. The competition features 18 participants vying for the title of rising star in Brazil's rap scene. Part 1 of the series, comprising four episodes, will premiere on November 12, followed by Part 2 with two final episodes on November 19.

The show mirrors the format of its US counterpart and other international versions, focusing on the artistic growth of contestants. The winner will receive R$500,000 to launch their career and a spot on Season 5 of "Sintonia."

Judging the competition are Djonga from Belo Horizonte, Filipe Ret from Rio de Janeiro, and sisters Tasha & Tracie from São Paulo. The series is filmed in locations significant to these judges' careers: Viaduto Santa Tereza in Belo Horizonte, Tavares Bastos and Lapa in Rio de Janeiro, and Cidade Tiradentes in São Paulo.

"Rhythm and Flow: Brazil" also showcases 20 established Brazilian artists who will mentor the new talents. These include Azzy, Bob13, Dallas, Dexter, Ebony, FBC, Iza Sabino, Jottapê, Karol Conká among others.

The participants bring diverse backgrounds to the competition:

- Afrodite BXD from Rio de Janeiro found her voice through poetry.

- Cafiero from Belo Horizonte was influenced by his grandmother and uncle.

- COLD JAS moved from Angola to Brazil at age 16.

- Fúria na Voz hails from Jundiaí in São Paulo.

- Gabrelú identifies as a non-binary trans person from São Paulo's countryside.

- Guiu began writing poetry as a teenager in Teresópolis.

- Jump turned to music after excelling in athletics.

- Maju started producing music during the pandemic.

- Maria Preta describes herself as an evolving artist despite not yet living off her music.

Other competitors include MayronZZZ from Minas Gerais; Muse Maya inspired by rap; Muxima overcoming stutter through rap battles; Novak staying away from crime thanks to hip-hop; OGCapitu blending trap with slam poetry; Ras aspiring to live off his art; RT Mallone with three albums released; RUI'f discovering his path through performance opportunities; VICKIVI inspired by family musical heritage.

Directed by Cacá Marcondes with co-directors Fábio Ock and Maristela Mattos for Endemol Shine Brasil—part of Banijay—the show promises dynamic content reflecting vibrant urban culture.
