The United States has imposed sanctions on three individuals and four companies involved in a network that evades sanctions to generate revenue for Hizballah. This action aims to disrupt the terrorist group's operations, as it continues to launch rockets into Israel, contributing to instability in Lebanon and the broader region.
Additionally, the U.S. has sanctioned three individuals connected to the illegal production and trafficking of captagon. This amphetamine is not only harmful but also serves as a funding source for the Syrian regime and its supporters, including Hizballah. The sanctions support the goals of the Illicit Captagon Trafficking Suppression Act.
The U.S. remains committed to blocking Hizballah's access to international financial systems and cutting off its revenue streams used for violence. Efforts will continue against the captagon trade, which has become a billion-dollar illicit enterprise involving senior members of the Syrian regime.
These Treasury actions are executed under several authorities: Executive Order (E.O.) 13224 concerning counterterrorism; E.O. 13572 related to human rights abuses in Syria; E.O. 13582 targeting the Government of Syria; and the Caesar Syrian Civilian Protection Act of 2019.
