U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry in Texas seized narcotics valued at over $414,000 during a recent enforcement action. The incident occurred on October 12th when a CBP officer directed a 2010 Dodge Journey for secondary inspection at the Eagle Pass International Bridge. The vehicle was driven by a 26-year-old male United States citizen.
Port Director Pete Beattie stated, "This seizure highlights our officers’ commitment to interdicting illicit narcotics." He added that the CBP officers at Eagle Pass are dedicated to maintaining strong enforcement measures to prevent cross-border drug smuggling.
During the inspection, CBP officers used both canine units and non-intrusive methods before conducting a physical examination of the vehicle. They discovered packages containing approximately 45 pounds of methamphetamine hidden within the rocker panels. The estimated street value of these narcotics is $414,765.
Following this discovery, CBP seized both the narcotics and the vehicle involved. The Maverick County Sheriff’s Office arrested the driver and has begun a criminal investigation into the matter.
