The Department of Commerce has announced the 2024 Class of Sustainability, Energy, and Environmental (SEE) Ambassadors. This program highlights departmental employees who have excelled in implementing projects that enhance sustainability, energy efficiency, climate adaptation, and environmental performance.
Dr. Katarina E. Goodge from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) was recognized for her role in founding GreeNISTers and advancing campus sustainability through various initiatives. John Palmer's efforts in promoting energy efficiency through international challenges were also acknowledged. Gabriel Popkin received recognition for his work on reducing food waste and improving green practices at NIST.
Other honorees from NIST include Dr. Julie Rieland for her contributions to energy initiatives and Lori Sakalos for advancing climate literacy through training sessions.
From the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Max Edwards was commended for developing a key report on facility energy use that aids carbon reduction efforts. Lieutenant Luke Evancoe was noted for his commitment to biosecurity as Divemaster on NOAA Ship Oscar Elton Sette. Leslie Killian's work on NEPA assessments and Dr. Wassila Thiaw's efforts in enhancing real-time climate information access were also highlighted.
Shiqiao Chen from the International Trade Administration was honored for her leadership in carbon neutrality market development with China, while Terrina L. Long from the U.S. Census Bureau led a project reducing facility size by 39% to create an efficient hybrid work environment.
Lastly, Tiffany Spina from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office was recognized for managing sustainability programs including installing EV charging stations.
