The U.S. Department of State, in collaboration with the Recording Academy®, has announced the launch of the American Music Mentorship Program (AMMP). This initiative is part of a broader effort to use music as a tool for unity, peace, and economic development within the creative economy.

The program will bring together 20 mid-level music professionals from Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria. These participants include producers, executives, lawyers, talent agents, and music tour and event promoters. They will work alongside experts from the Recording Academy to gain insights and expand their professional networks.

A key focus of AMMP is on industry topics such as intellectual property rights and the impact of artificial intelligence. The program will also feature a forum dedicated to women in the music industry. After an initial session in Los Angeles, participants will continue collaborating virtually throughout the year to enhance their local music industries.

This mentorship program is part of the Global Music Diplomacy Initiative launched by Secretary of State Antony Blinken in September 2023. The initiative aims to promote peace and democracy through music while supporting U.S. foreign policy objectives related to education access, economic opportunity, equity, and societal inclusion.
