The U.S. Department of Labor has allocated $800,000 to the Kansas Local Area I Workforce Investment Board, known as Kansas WorkforceONE. This funding aims to assist individuals impacted by layoffs and closures that occurred from January 2024 to June 2024.
This grant is managed by the department's Employment and Training Administration. It represents the initial portion of a National Dislocated Worker Grant totaling up to $2,072,227. The funds will enable Kansas WorkforceONE to offer retraining and skills development for dislocated workers across 62 counties in its jurisdiction.
The support comes under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014. National Dislocated Worker Grants provide financial resources to state or local boards in regions experiencing significant economic disruptions where workforce needs surpass available resources.
