Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III has arrived in Ukraine to meet with Ukrainian leaders and affirm the United States' support for Ukraine's fight for freedom. This marks his fourth visit to the country as Secretary of Defense.
During his stay, Secretary Austin will engage with Ukrainian leadership to emphasize the U.S. commitment to providing necessary security assistance for Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression.
At the end of his visit, Secretary Austin is expected to deliver a speech highlighting Ukraine's efforts in resisting what he describes as "Putin's war of choice." He will also discuss the U.S. commitment to ensuring that Ukraine's armed forces have the capabilities needed on the battlefield and explain why this conflict is significant for U.S. security.
Since April 2022, Secretary Austin has been convening the Ukraine Defense Contact Group nearly every month. This coalition includes around 50 countries dedicated to supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression. Together, these nations have provided billions in security assistance and contributed towards building a future force and industrial base that aims to deter further Russian aggression.
