On October 20, 2024, officers from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), stationed at the Camino Real International Bridge in Eagle Pass, Texas, apprehended a man wanted for a felony warrant related to child sex offenses. The individual was identified as Gerardo Gutierrez Ramos, a 57-year-old Mexican citizen.
According to Pete Beattie, Port Director at Eagle Pass Port of Entry, "Our frontline CBP officers continue to maintain strict vigilance and that dedication to duty resulted in the apprehension of a man wanted an outstanding felony warrant for indecency with a child." He emphasized that "the heinous nature of the crimes alleged in felony arrest warrants like these underscore the importance and public safety value of CBP’s ongoing border security mission."
The arrest occurred after Gutierrez Ramos was referred for a secondary examination by CBP officers who used biometric verification and federal law enforcement databases. This process confirmed his identity and revealed an outstanding felony arrest warrant issued by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office in Dallas, Texas. Following this discovery, CBP officers transferred him to the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office for further legal proceedings.
The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) plays a critical role in such operations by providing a centralized automated database that allows law enforcement agencies to share information on outstanding warrants for various offenses. The NCIC has been instrumental in previous arrests made by CBP officers for crimes ranging from homicide and money laundering to narcotics distribution and military desertion.
It is important to note that criminal charges are allegations until proven otherwise in court. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
