U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Presidio port of entry in Texas have apprehended a 20-year-old U.S. citizen wanted for manslaughter by the Midland, Texas police department. The arrest occurred on October 20 when the man arrived from Mexico as a passenger in a vehicle.
During routine primary inspection duties, CBP officers identified the individual as having an outstanding warrant through the National Crime Identification Center. After verifying this information, they handed him over to the Presidio Police Department for processing.
"Homeland security is our primary mission; however, the inspections that CBP officers perform will often identify people being sought by law enforcement agencies locally and around the nation," said CBP Presidio Port Director Benito Reyes Jr., emphasizing their role in national security.
This arrest is part of a series of apprehensions made by CBP officers in El Paso, West Texas, and New Mexico over three days. In total, nine fugitives were captured during this period for various offenses including assault, vehicle theft, and driving while intoxicated (DWI).
CBP stands as America's largest law enforcement organization with over 65,000 personnel working to secure borders on land, air, and sea. Their mission includes facilitating safe travel and trade while enhancing national security through innovation and collaboration.
