This morning, Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector, in coordination with the Brownsville Police Department, provided assistance to a young woman in distress near Interstate 69E (Expressway 83) and East 24th Street in Brownsville, Texas. The area where she was spotted is an overpass without pedestrian access.

Upon observing the young woman standing on the side of the highway, Fort Brown Border Patrol agents decided to intervene due to concerns for her safety and that of passing motorists. As they approached, she jumped onto a concrete pillar, risking a fall. The agents acted promptly by climbing onto the pillar and securing her safely.

Emergency medical services evaluated the young woman before she was handed over to the Brownsville Police Department.

"This was a dangerous situation, not only for the individual but for everyone on the highway," stated Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez. "I’m incredibly proud of the way our Fort Brown Station Border Patrol agents and Brownsville Police Officers handled this rescue. Their training and quick thinking likely saved a life today."
