Netflix has marked its tenth anniversary in Australia with the opening of a new office in Sydney. The office, located on the traditional land of the Gadigal people in Chippendale, aims to strengthen Netflix's presence and commitment to Australian storytelling.

Greg Peters, Co-CEO of Netflix, welcomed Australian creatives, policymakers, media representatives, and industry peers to the new hub. He reflected on Netflix's journey over the past decade and highlighted several successful productions such as "Boy Swallows Universe," "Heartbreak High," "True Spirit," "Love is in the Air," and "The Stranger." These titles have featured prominently on Top Ten lists globally.

Peters emphasized that Netflix wants Australian storytellers to know they can create ambitious and authentic stories within Australia without needing to relocate internationally. He mentioned how Netflix's influence extends beyond screens, citing an online movement inspired by their adaptation of "Boy Swallows Universe."

Tony Burke, Australia's Minister for the Arts, praised the establishment of a permanent office as a significant step for creativity in Australia. “It sends a message...that this is a permanent home of creativity in Australia for one of the biggest platforms on the planet,” he said.

In recent years (2019-2023), Netflix reported investing over $1 billion AUD into local content through various films and shows. From 2020 to 2023 alone, more than 6,000 cast and crew members were employed across numerous locations throughout Australia.

As part of its commitment to nurturing local talent, Netflix collaborates with partners like AFTRS, Bus Stop Films, and Screenworks to offer training programs. Greg Peters noted that these efforts aim not only at enhancing Netflix’s success but also at strengthening Australia's creative community overall.

Looking forward, Netflix plans to release new Australian content including drama series "Apple Cider Vinegar" and an adaptation of Jane Harper’s novel "The Survivors." The company remains committed to showcasing unparalleled local talent while continuing its legacy within Australia and New Zealand.
