Department of Energy announces recipients of 2024 C3E awards

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced the winners of the 2024 Clean Energy Education & Empowerment (C3E) Awards, recognizing nine women for their leadership and achievements in the clean energy sector. The C3E Initiative, now in its 13th year, is a collaborative effort by the DOE with institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Energy Initiative, Stanford University’s Precourt Institute for Energy, and Arizona State University's Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm stated, "DOE is honored to celebrate this year’s C3E Awardees, a remarkable group of leaders introducing groundbreaking ideas and diverse viewpoints to advance a fair and sustainable clean energy economy in America and across the world." She emphasized that these women are contributing significantly to understanding the clean energy transition and driving innovative breakthroughs necessary for a sustainable future.

The awardees have been recognized for their contributions across various categories within the clean energy field. Linette Casey was honored in the Business category for her role at Siemens Energy, where she manages sales accounts in renewable energy sectors such as wind and solar. In Education, Jennifer Clemons was acknowledged for her work at CREATE to increase diversity in energy careers.

Andi Kleissner received recognition in Entrepreneurship & Commercialization as a Co-Chief Executive Officer of Amped Innovation, focusing on solar systems and appliances. Amy Duffuor was awarded in Finance & Investment for her investment work with Azolla Ventures targeting climate-impacting technologies.

In Fundamental & Applied Research, Johanna Mathieu from the University of Michigan was recognized for developing strategies to reduce environmental impacts of power systems. Kim Smaczniak earned accolades in Government for her contributions at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) towards enabling grid transitions to clean energy.

Gina Cady received acknowledgment in International efforts through her role with USAID's Power Africa initiative aiming to electrify health facilities across sub-Saharan Africa. Christina Angelides was recognized in Policy & Advocacy for her policy strategy leadership at Elemental Impact.

Rose McKinney-James was awarded Lifetime Achievement honors for over 35 years of dedication to advancing renewable energy policies and frameworks at both state levels and within private sectors.

These awardees will be celebrated at the upcoming 13th Annual C3E Women in Clean Energy Symposium on November 13, 2024.
