Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken held a meeting with Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on October 25, 2024. The discussions focused on the United States' commitment to resolving the conflict in Lebanon through diplomatic means. Secretary Blinken stressed the importance of fully implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which aims to facilitate the return of displaced Israelis and Lebanese to their homes along both sides of the Blue Line.

During the meeting, Secretary Blinken reiterated U.S. support for Lebanon's government and its sovereign institutions, including the Lebanese Armed Forces, as well as expressing solidarity with the Lebanese people. He highlighted his concern over civilian casualties and suffering in Lebanon and reaffirmed U.S. dedication to aiding vulnerable populations by mentioning the recent announcement of $157 million in humanitarian assistance.

Furthermore, Secretary Blinken emphasized that Iran and Hizballah should not hinder Lebanon’s security and stability. He expressed backing for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, underscoring that ensuring their personnel's safety is crucial.

The dialogue also covered Lebanon’s ongoing presidential vacancy and highlighted the necessity for leadership that aligns with the people's aspirations.
