Minister Antoine Armand of France and U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen are set to meet to discuss a range of economic issues. This meeting marks the beginning of Minister Armand's tenure as France’s Minister of Economy and Finance.
Secretary Yellen expressed her anticipation for ongoing collaboration between the United States and France on international economic matters. "I look forward to continuing the deep and longstanding cooperation between the United States and France, including advancing our joint work on shared international economic priorities," she stated.
A primary focus will be their mutual commitment to support Ukraine amid its conflict with Russia. "We are committed to working together to unlock the value of immobilized Russian sovereign assets to help secure economic and security assistance for Ukraine," Yellen emphasized, highlighting the financial aid both nations have provided.
Additionally, discussions will address efforts to strengthen sanctions against Russia. These measures aim to restrict Russia's revenue streams and hinder its access to essential goods, particularly through intermediaries like China.
The two leaders also plan to address concerns about China's macroeconomic imbalances, which could pose risks due to overcapacity in critical industrial sectors. Yellen noted the importance of collaborating with allies such as France in this regard.
Another key topic is reforming international financial institutions to better serve emerging markets and developing countries. "We also look forward to building on our close cooperation," Yellen remarked, emphasizing the goal of fostering global prosperity and stability.
These subjects, among others, will be discussed during Secretary Yellen's meeting with Minister Armand.
