Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III are set to co-host a significant meeting with their counterparts from the Republic of Korea (ROK) on October 31 in Washington, D.C. The meeting, known as the 6th U.S.-Republic of Korea Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meeting or "2+2," will include ROK Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul and Minister of Defense Kim Yong-hyun.
This upcoming dialogue aims to build upon commitments established during ROK President Yoon Suk Yeol's official visit to the United States in April 2023, as well as the August 2023 Trilateral Leaders Summit. According to statements by Secretary Blinken and Secretary Austin, there is anticipation for further cooperation on both global and regional issues while deepening the alliance between the United States and South Korea.
