Ambassador Jessica Lapenn is retiring after a notable career in the U.S. Foreign Service, where she most recently served as the inaugural U.S. Senior Coordinator for Atlantic Cooperation. Over the past two years, she has played a key role in establishing the Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation, a multilateral forum aimed at addressing significant environmental and development challenges within the Atlantic community.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken acknowledged Ambassador Lapenn's efforts, stating, "Ambassador Lapenn has brought together like-minded nations to collaborate on shared opportunities and to address common challenges." The United States has committed $10 million in new funds to support innovative programs under this partnership.

Lapenn's 30-year tenure in foreign service includes her role as U.S. Ambassador to the African Union. Blinken expressed gratitude for her service: "I thank Jessye for her leadership, creativity, dedicated public service, and enduring contribution to our Atlantic relationships."

With over 75 percent of the Atlantic coastline represented by partnership members, joint initiatives are underway that aim to impact the region positively. Moving forward, the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs alongside State Department Counselor Tom Sullivan will continue this work to promote cooperation across the Atlantic.
