U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry seized more than $438,000 in mixed narcotics over the weekend. The seizure included cocaine and fentanyl.

Port Director Pete Beattie stated, “This mixed narcotics load of cocaine and fentanyl perfectly illustrates the severity of the drug threat our officers face on a daily basis.” He credited the successful operation to the training, experience, canines, and high-tech tools used by CBP officers.

The incident took place on October 26 at the Camino Real International Bridge. A CBP officer referred a 2015 Toyota Highlander driven by a 78-year-old male Mexican citizen for secondary inspection. During this process, which involved non-intrusive inspection techniques and canine assistance, officers found 11 packages containing a total of 24.60 pounds of alleged cocaine and two packages containing 4.72 pounds of alleged fentanyl hidden within the vehicle. The estimated street value of these narcotics is $438,715.

The narcotics and vehicle were seized by CBP. Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested the driver and have begun a criminal investigation.
