Morgan Reed Executive Director of The App Association (ACT) | The App Association (ACT)
In response to the Brazilian government's release of their latest Digital Platform Report on October 10, ACT | The App Association has shared its perspective. Morgan Reed, President of ACT | The App Association, emphasized the importance of careful consideration before taking further steps in digital markets. He stated, “While the App Association recognizes the Brazilian government’s exploration of digital markets and the approaches taken by other jurisdictions, next steps should be taken only after carefully considering the impact of proposed interventions into nascent and evolving markets that support small business growth and job creation in Brazil.” Reed added that any government actions should be based on "demonstrated risks to competition and consumers" to avoid disrupting the app economy's competitive dynamics.
The App Association expressed support for recommendations that CADE, Brazil's primary competition agency, is well-suited to oversee digital platforms using existing laws. As assessments continue regarding digital platform competition, the association plans to collaborate with local policymakers. This collaboration aims to ensure that small business technology developers' perspectives are considered in decision-making processes.
ACT | The App Association represents a global network of small and medium-sized technology companies. Its members include entrepreneurs and independent developers engaged across various industries within the app ecosystem. The association works to foster a policy environment conducive to innovation while providing resources for capital raising, job creation, and technological advancement.
