On October 10, the U.S. Department of Justice and the United Kingdom Home Office held a multilateral meeting at the U.S. Embassy in London. The focus was on addressing state-sponsored high-harm physical threats and other forms of transnational repression. The event was co-chaired by Matthew G. Olsen, Assistant Attorney General for National Security from the U.S. Department of Justice, and Chloe Squires, Director General for Homeland Security from the U.K. Home Office.
The meeting gathered senior government officials from various partner nations facing increased levels of transnational violence by state actors and their proxies, particularly authoritarian regimes. Representatives from intelligence, law enforcement, prosecutorial, and policy organizations participated to discuss strategies for countering the rise in transnational assassination plots, kidnappings, and other violent acts.
The goal was to reach a common understanding of the threat landscape and share operational and strategic approaches to counter these threats while identifying opportunities for ongoing collaboration. At the conclusion of the meeting, participants agreed to establish a regular working group aimed at maintaining shared visibility into threats in member countries and developing strategies to enhance their capacity to deter and disrupt state-sponsored violence.
