Ambassador Julie Turner, the Special Envoy on North Korean Human Rights Issues, is set to embark on a European tour from November 5-8, 2024. During her visit, she will engage with government officials, civil society organizations, and North Korean escapees in London and Paris. The discussions will focus on human rights issues in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), strategies to support the escapee community, and the connection between human rights abuses in the DPRK and international peace and security.
Following her visits to London and Paris, Ambassador Turner will proceed to Geneva. There, she will participate in the DPRK’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) at the UN Human Rights Council. The United States continues its commitment to working with other governments both bilaterally and through multilateral forums to advance human rights in the DPRK. This includes highlighting human rights abuses and violations while demanding accountability for those responsible.
"The United States remains resolute in its commitment to engage with other governments bilaterally and in multilateral fora to promote human rights in the DPRK," states an official note from the Office of the Spokesperson.
