The United States has extended its congratulations to Maia Sandu on her reelection as President of Moldova. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken highlighted that President Sandu is the first Moldovan president to secure a second term through popular vote, marking a historic milestone for the country.
In his statement, Blinken commended the people of Moldova for their dedication to democracy and their efforts in safeguarding the election from what he described as "an unprecedented level of Kremlin interference." He emphasized that "the Moldovan people have spoken" and expressed support for their choice to pursue a European and democratic direction.
Blinken noted that Moldova's high voter turnout reflects this commitment, stating, "Moldova won yesterday, and the Kremlin’s attempts to subvert the will of the Moldovan people failed."
The U.S. stands with Moldova as it continues on its path toward a democratic, prosperous, and European future.
