The G7 Foreign Ministers have issued a statement condemning the recent launch of an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) by North Korea, known as the DPRK. The statement was released on November 5, 2024, and represents the collective stance of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the High Representative of the European Union.
In their statement, the ministers expressed strong disapproval of North Korea's actions on October 31 (local time), highlighting that this launch is part of a series involving ballistic missile technology. They criticized North Korea for prioritizing its weapons programs over addressing domestic welfare issues.
The ministers noted that North Korea continues to develop its nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities in violation of international agreements. They reiterated their call for complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and demanded that North Korea abandon all nuclear weapons and related programs in a manner that is complete, verifiable, and irreversible. This demand aligns with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Furthermore, they urged members of the UN Security Council to honor their commitments and called on all UN Member States to fully implement these resolutions.
The G7 reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners to achieve peace and stability in the region while supporting a rules-based international order.
