The U.S. Department of State has initiated two International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) exchanges this week, aimed at bolstering international collaborations in STEM education and enhancing capabilities in critical and emerging technology fields.
From November 4 to 22, 2024, a group of 11 individuals including government officials, business and nonprofit leaders, and academic professionals from Australia, India, and Japan will take part in the "Empowering Women Leaders in STEM in the Quad" IVLP exchange. Participants will travel to several U.S. cities including Washington, DC; Indianapolis, IN; Kalamazoo, MI; Las Vegas, NV; Sacramento and San Francisco, CA. The program aims to explore methods to increase women's involvement in STEM innovation ecosystems with a focus on CET fields. Discussions will also cover effective public-private partnership models that aim to boost STEM education for women and girls.
Simultaneously, another IVLP exchange from November 4 to 22 will host six public policy experts, researchers, and academic professionals from Australia and the United Kingdom. They will visit Washington, DC; Norfolk, VA; Portland, ME; Boston, MA; Seattle, WA; and Honolulu, HI. This program centers on strengthening cooperation regarding advanced defense capabilities under AUKUS Pillar II. Participants will meet with U.S. defense innovation specialists and STEM educators to discuss expanding partnerships with academic institutions and research facilities while promoting innovation in critical technologies such as quantum computing, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
