The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), a prominent advocate for small businesses in the United States, has launched a significant advertising campaign. This initiative, valued in the seven-figure range, is aimed at Washington, D.C., and several states. It features targeted television and digital advertisements designed to influence the 2025 tax debate as the 119th Congress approaches.
The campaign introduces two new ads that emphasize the need to make the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction permanent through the Main Street Tax Certainty Act. These ads showcase small business owners from across the country who are appealing to Congress to prevent what they describe as a massive tax hike on small businesses.
"Small businesses are the foundation of the American economy, and the 20% Small Business Deduction is the most significant tax cut for small businesses in the last few decades, helping level the playing field between Main Street and large corporations," stated NFIB President Brad Close. He further expressed concern about potential consequences if these tax savings are removed: "Suddenly removing these tax savings will decimate America’s small businesses, who have already started pulling back in preparation for the worst. Congress must pass the Main Street Tax Certainty Act to avoid a massive tax hike on nine out of 10 small businesses."
The 20% Small Business Deduction was established as part of a 2017 tax law with an aim to create parity between small businesses and larger corporations. It has been instrumental in enabling small business owners to navigate recent economic challenges but is set to expire at the end of 2025. The proposed Main Street Tax Certainty Act seeks to make this deduction permanent, thereby preventing substantial tax increases for many U.S. small businesses.
