CCIA voices concerns over proposed enforcement language in Colorado Privacy Act

The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) has submitted comments concerning the proposed enforcement language for the Colorado Privacy Act. The organization expressed gratitude to Colorado for considering its concerns and incorporating earlier recommendations to clarify compliance language in the new law. CCIA also made additional suggestions to ensure the law's feasibility before implementation.

Previously, CCIA testified on both the passage and implementation of the Colorado Privacy Act. With a history spanning 50 years of advocating for policies that support a competitive U.S. tech industry, CCIA also endorses baseline federal privacy legislation.

Jordan Rodell, CCIA State Policy Manager, stated: “We appreciate Colorado’s collaboration with stakeholders to clarify definitions, the scope of the law, and which entities are covered. Companies working to comply with Colorado’s Privacy Act will need ongoing guidance from the state. Timely responses to inquiries about the regulation, as well as clarification on how future court rulings may impact its implementation, will be essential, especially as more states pass privacy laws. CCIA advocates for a unified approach to privacy regulation to avoid a 50-state patchwork that burdens businesses, large and small. We offered suggestions to clarify areas that we anticipate could be problematic or confusing.”
