U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) held a change of command ceremony on November 7, officially swearing in Benito Reyes Jr. as the new Presidio Port Director. The event took place at the Presidio Activity Center, with family, friends, colleagues, and local dignitaries in attendance.

Reyes expressed his goals for his new role, stating, "My goal is to enhance collaboration with the community, our stakeholders and port personnel as we work together to balance legitimate trade and travel with our vital homeland security mission." He added that it was an honor to lead the men and women of U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Presidio.

As Port Director, Reyes will oversee operations and enforcement activities at the Presidio port of entry and Boquillas international crossing. His responsibilities include managing CBP officers, Agriculture Specialists, and Canine Enforcement Officers. He will also ensure compliance with U.S. laws regarding immigration issues and customs inspections.

Reyes began his career in law enforcement with the U.S. Customs Service in January 1997 at the Laredo Port of Entry. Over the years, he has taken on various roles within CBP following its creation in 2003. Before becoming Port Director at Presidio, he served as Assistant Port Director for Trade Operations at Del Rio, Texas.

His career has included assignments at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and Hidalgo Port of Entry in the Rio Grande Valley. Reyes has also worked internationally with the Container Security Initiative in Thailand and Tokyo and Preclearance operations in Toronto.

Reyes is a veteran of the United States Army with 16 years of service before joining U.S. Customs Service. Originally from Edinburg, Texas, he has been married for 33 years and has two sons serving in the U.S. Army.

The CBP adopted formal change of command ceremonies in 2008 to unify its workforce further while highlighting its mission since its inception in March 2003.

CBP is recognized as America's frontline border management agency with over 65,000 personnel working to protect national security while facilitating lawful travel and trade.
