A coalition of over 280 organizations has announced what it says is a multimillion-dollar legal initiative to challenge policies from the incoming Trump administration. The coalition, "Democracy 2025,” includes legal, advocacy, and policy groups to "disrupt far-right attacks on the American people," according to its website.

According to a press release by the coalition, Democracy 2025 is spearheaded by Democracy Forward, a legal advocacy organization  to promote "transparent and accountable governance.”  The coalition says more than 800 individuals are involved, including "litigators, strategists, advocates, academics, policy experts, and faith leaders."

The coalition says it is "representing millions of people, committed to working more quickly, more strategically, and in greater numbers than ever before."

In the press release, the coalition said it formed to oppose policy proposals outlined in Project 2025 and other plans that may be considered by the incoming administration. Democracy 2025 says it has identified 221 "high-priority threats” relating to democratic institutions, reproductive rights and access to health care, labor protections, discrimination, public education, environmental protections, immigrant communities, and national security.

Former Ambassador Norman Eisen, a member of the coalition said Democracy 2025 will use "strategic litigation” and "rule of law power to push back on attempts at undermining and weaponizing the federal government for ideological, political and personal means.”

The coalition said it will use its litigation fund to "ensure swift and effective responses to any executive actions deemed harmful or unlawful."

"We’ve planned for this moment. In courtrooms and communities across the country, we will use all the tools our Constitution provides to defend our rights and achieve a democracy that works for all people," the coalition said.

The coalition lists the following organizations as members on its website:
