The State Department's Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations is set to collaborate with the University of Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs for the Academic Centers of Conflict Anticipation and Prevention (ACCAP) Conference. Scheduled for November 18 and 19, the event will take place at the Keough School Washington Office – Conference Center in Washington, DC.
Launched in November 2023, ACCAP aims to enhance the State Department’s access to academic expertise on global conflict drivers. The conference, themed “Partnerships for Peace,” will feature officials from the Department of State, Department of Defense, and USAID discussing their agencies' evolving research priorities. Students engaged in conflict stabilization research will also present their work.
Speakers from the Department of State include Under Secretary Uzra Zeya, Assistant Secretary Anne Witkowsky, and Managing Director Marianne Craven. Representing Notre Dame are Dean Mary Gallagher, Associate Dean Andres Mejia Acosta, and Executive Director Maura Policelli.
Panel discussions will cover themes such as U.S. Strategy to Prevent Conflict and Promote Stability (SPCPS), Women, Peace, and Security strategies, climate security, and strategic competition.
ACCAP partners include several universities: Florida International University, George Mason University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, The Ohio State University, University of Alabama, University of California Berkeley, University of Notre Dame itself, and the University of Utah.
