U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has established a new Laredo Field Office under its Trade Regulatory Audit Directorate. This office will provide data and financial analysis expertise to assess compliance with U.S. trade laws and support investigations into trade law violations.
"We are proud to formally announce that CBP’s Trade Regulatory Audit Directorate has inaugurated its own Laredo Field Office," stated Anibal Marrero, Executive Director of the Trade Regulatory Audit at CBP's Office of Trade. He emphasized that the team, led by Field Director Carlos R. Martinez, will offer crucial forensic accounting and data analysis services to ensure compliance with trade laws and assist in civil and criminal investigations related to complex trade violations.
The Trade Regulatory Audit (TRA) Division operates through various field offices across the United States, conducting audits and offering professional services as subject matter experts in specialized areas. The division employs a risk-based approach to evaluate compliance with trade regulations while collaborating with other CBP components, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement/Homeland Security Investigations, and Partner Government Agencies when necessary.
By conducting audits such as Focused Assessments, TRA aims to protect government revenue, inform the trade community about compliance requirements, deter future violations, shield domestic industries from unfair practices, and facilitate legitimate trade activities.
