The recent election in New York brought some unexpected outcomes, particularly regarding Republican gains near New York City. President Biden secured a win in the state with 61% of the vote, while Vice President Harris trailed slightly, garnering approximately 55%.
New York remains a critical battleground for control of the U.S. House of Representatives. Democrats successfully flipped two seats: NY-19, where incumbent Marc Molinaro (R) was defeated by Josh Riley (D), and NY-22, where Brandon Williams (R) lost to John Mannion (D). The race for NY-04, held by Anthony D’Esposito (R), is still too close to call as of November 6th. Additionally, seven incumbents endorsed by NFIB Fed PAC retained their seats.
In the New York State Senate and Assembly, the composition will largely remain unchanged as incumbents performed well overall. However, Senate Republicans appear to have reduced the Democratic supermajority by securing 22 seats and flipping NY-17 in New York City. The race between Chris Ryan (D) and Nick Paro (R) in NY-50 is yet undecided. In the Assembly, Democrats seem poised to maintain their supermajority by a narrow margin, though several races are still pending final results.
NFIB’s PAC committees supported a bipartisan group of 65 candidates who advocate for small businesses across New York. Of these endorsed candidates, 56 were elected to positions in Albany or Washington, D.C., achieving nearly a 90% success rate.
