U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello visited Port Sudan on November 18, engaging in discussions with key figures including Sovereign Council President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, members of Sudanese civil society, and officials from the Office of the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator.

This visit highlights the U.S.'s ongoing commitment to collaborating with the people of Sudan and international partners to address the conflict and severe human rights and humanitarian crisis in the region. The Special Envoy emphasized the importance of halting hostilities, ensuring unhindered humanitarian access through localized pauses in fighting for emergency relief delivery, and committing to a civilian government. He also acknowledged recent improvements in humanitarian access to more areas experiencing famine conditions.

Perriello expressed gratitude towards UN humanitarian officials striving to deliver emergency aid under challenging circumstances. His agenda included meetings with Sudanese civil society members to discuss their efforts in providing emergency assistance across ethnic lines to vulnerable communities and internally displaced persons.

Following his visit to Sudan, Perriello traveled to Djibouti for discussions with Intergovernmental Authority on Development officials. He is also scheduled to visit Rome for meetings with Italian and Holy See government officials, UN representatives, and non-governmental organization representatives concerning the crisis in Sudan.
