Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken held a meeting with foreign ministers and senior officials from Canada, Chile, France, Italy, Mexico, Paraguay, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay. The gathering took place on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The discussions focused on advancing peace, security, and prosperity for the Western Hemisphere.

According to Spokesperson Matthew Miller: "Secretary Blinken and his counterparts discussed the urgency of heeding the Haitian transitional government’s request to transition the Multinational Security Support mission to a UN peacekeeping operation." There was also an emphasis on providing immediate support to Haiti from the international community.

Furthermore, Secretary Blinken highlighted: "The United States’ support for the Venezuelan people" and stressed "the importance of sustained international pressure on Maduro and his representatives to recognize the results of the election and allow for a peaceful return to democracy."
