Iowa election results favor pro-small business candidates

The recent 2024 election results indicate a strong preference among Iowans for candidates who support small business policies. The NFIB Iowa PAC endorsed 70 candidates committed to such policies, and 67 of them emerged victorious on Election Night, marking a success rate of 96%.

NFIB Iowa State Director Matt Everson commented on the outcome: “The message was sent loud and clear in Iowa that pro-small business candidates are the preferred candidates of the mass majority of the voters.” He added that they look forward to collaborating with legislators to reduce small business costs by lowering taxes and removing unnecessary government regulations.

In state elections, Republicans gained three seats in the Iowa House, increasing their majority to 67-33. In the Iowa Senate, Republicans expanded their majority by one seat, resulting in a 35-15 composition.

On a federal level, all four congressional seats in Iowa will remain under Republican control. These representatives—Nunn, Miller-Meeks, Hinson, and Feenstra—were all endorsed by NFIB. The U.S. House will continue with a Republican majority at 221-214 for 2025.

While U.S. Senators Grassley and Ernst were not up for re-election this year, the U.S. Senate is set to shift to Republican control with a projected majority of 53-47 starting in 2025.
