The Biden Administration has announced additional security assistance for Ukraine, following a previous commitment made by President Biden on September 26. The Department of Defense (DoD) revealed this new package as part of ongoing efforts to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities amid ongoing conflicts.
This latest support marks the seventieth tranche of equipment supplied from DoD inventories to Ukraine since August 2021. Known as the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package, it is valued at approximately $275 million. It aims to address Ukraine's critical security and defense needs with specific military resources.
Included in this announcement are munitions for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), artillery ammunition of various calibers, mortar rounds, unmanned aerial systems, and several types of missiles and anti-armor systems. Additional provisions include small arms, demolitions equipment, protective gear against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats, as well as spare parts and training services.
The United States remains committed to collaborating with around 50 allies and partners through the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. This coalition works to ensure that Ukraine receives necessary battlefield support to counter Russian aggression effectively.
