Instagram is rolling out new features to enhance user experience in direct messages (DMs). The update introduces 17 new sticker packs, customizable nicknames, and location sharing options. These additions aim to make communication more engaging and convenient.

Users can now express themselves with over 300 new stickers available in the updated DM sticker tray. "Capture a feeling or find the right reaction with new stickers in DMs," Instagram suggests. Users can also favorite and reuse stickers shared by friends or created through cutouts.

Nicknames offer a personalized touch to conversations on Instagram DMs. Users can assign nicknames to themselves or friends, allowing for inside jokes or simplified recognition of lengthy usernames. Nicknames are only visible within DM chats and do not alter usernames elsewhere on the platform.

Location sharing is another feature designed to facilitate meetups among friends. Users can share their live location for up to an hour or pin a specific spot on the map. This feature helps coordinate arrival times and activities, especially useful for crowded events like concerts.

The live location sharing is private, limited to either one-on-one or group chats, and expires after an hour by default. Only participants in the specific chat can view the shared location, which cannot be forwarded elsewhere. An indicator at the top of the chat reminds users when they are sharing their live location.

Currently, these location-sharing features are accessible only in select countries. Instagram advises users to remain cautious about privacy and share locations only with trusted individuals.
