DOJ seeks Google's Chrome divestment; CCIA raises concerns

The Department of Justice (DOJ) plans to ask a federal judge to require Google to divest its Chrome browser and separate Android from Search and Google Play, according to Bloomberg. The DOJ's proposed measures also include data licensing requirements and provisions related to Google's AI and Android systems.

For over 50 years, the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) has supported competition in the tech industry. The organization has previously aligned with the DOJ in cases involving IBM, AT&T, and Microsoft.

CCIA President & CEO Matt Schruers commented on the DOJ's proposal: "The DOJ’s proposed remedies go far beyond Judge Mehta’s ruling. This mixed bag of structural and behavioral remedies would reshape numerous industries and products, harming consumers and innovation in these dynamic markets. We expect the court will review the findings and only consider remedies that are tailored to address the search distribution contracts that are at the center of this case."
