U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge in Texas seized 26 weapons and 43 magazines during an outbound examination of a commercial bus heading to Mexico. The discovery was made on November 29, when CBP officers selected the vehicle for inspection using non-intrusive inspection equipment and a canine team.
Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry commented on the operation, stating, "Our CBP officers continue to maintain strict vigilance in both the inbound and outbound environments. Their inspections experience, attention to detail and technology all contributed to this significant outbound weapons seizure."
The weapons and magazines were concealed within the bus, which has since been seized along with its contents by CBP's Office of Field Operations (OFO). Homeland Security Investigations special agents have launched a criminal investigation into the matter.
