Acting Under Secretary for Political Affairs John Bass met with Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi in Washington, D.C. The meeting took place on December 4, 2024. During the discussion, Under Secretary Bass congratulated Foreign Minister Popsoi on Moldova's recent referendum passage that enshrines the strategic goal of EU membership in its constitution.
Both officials agreed to begin negotiations on a charter aimed at elevating bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership level. Additionally, Under Secretary Bass announced that the Department has approved Moldova's request to open a consulate in Chicago.
