Reps. Jay Obernolte (R-CA), Scott Franklin (R-GA), Doris Matsui (D-CA), and Ted Lieu (D-CA) have introduced the Promoting US Leadership in Standards Act in the House of Representatives. This bill is a counterpart to a Senate bill introduced by Senators Warner (D-VA) and Blackburn (R-TN), which was passed out of the Senate Commerce Committee in July.

Reed further noted that this bipartisan legislation directs the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to support industry-led standards development by allocating funding without expanding its mandate unnecessarily. He stated that this approach better positions standards development organizations and U.S. standards participants for success.
