U.S. Special Envoy for Yemen, Tim Lenderking, is on a diplomatic mission to Manama, Bahrain; Doha, Qatar; and Djibouti from December 5-12. His agenda includes discussions with partners aimed at countering the Houthis' attacks on Red Sea shipping. The international community's patience has waned due to these continued provocations by the non-state armed group.
Lenderking's itinerary also involves meetings with officials and civil society representatives to address the urgent need for facilitating humanitarian goods and services across Yemen. Discussions will focus on practical measures to create conditions conducive to intra-Yemeni political dialogue. Concerns about the Houthis' ongoing detention of innocent mariners and Yemeni employees of international organizations are also high on the agenda. These detentions have significantly impacted the delivery of vital humanitarian aid.
During his visit, Lenderking will engage with government officials, UN and international aid workers, multilateral organizations, U.S. servicemembers, and members of the Yemeni diaspora community. He is scheduled to attend key events such as the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain and participate in the Doha Forum in Qatar. Additionally, he will hold meetings with partners and officials from the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism for Yemen (UNVIM) in Djibouti.
