U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Progreso Port of Entry apprehended a woman wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for "Failure to Appear – Felony Sexual Assault of a Child including Grooming." The arrest occurred when Aisha Corina Marquez, 27, a U.S. citizen returning from Mexico, was referred for secondary inspection on Saturday, December 7.
During the inspection at the Progreso International Bridge, CBP officers used biometric verification and federal law enforcement databases to confirm Marquez's identity. They discovered she was wanted by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office in Brownsville, Texas. Subsequently, CBP officers handed her over to Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies for further legal proceedings.
Port Director Walter Weaver of the Progreso/Donna Port of Entry stated, “CBP officers often encounter individuals wanted for an array of offenses; however, sexual crimes against children are of the most heinous.” He emphasized that CBP works closely with law enforcement partners to ensure community safety and bring fugitives to justice.
The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is utilized by CBP as a centralized automated database that shares information among law enforcement agencies regarding outstanding warrants for various offenses. According to NCIC data, previous arrests have included individuals wanted for crimes such as homicide, escape, money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual child abuse, fraud, larceny, and military desertion.
It is important to note that criminal charges are merely allegations until proven guilty in a court of law.
