Chairman John Moolenaar of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party recently appeared on Fox News during the Reagan National Defense Forum. The discussion focused on various concerns related to China's activities and their implications for U.S. security and international relations.
Moolenaar highlighted the growing threat posed by China, emphasizing its aggressive actions both domestically and internationally. "The American people see that China is becoming increasingly more aggressive at home and abroad," he stated. He further noted violations of trade policies, military build-up threatening Taiwan and neighboring countries, espionage activities in the United States, and significant human rights violations such as the Uyghur genocide.
Addressing concerns about America's defense capabilities, Moolenaar expressed worry over the state of the U.S. defense industrial base amidst ongoing global conflicts. "We have concerns about the strength of our defense industrial base [in a] prolonged war against someone like China," he said, pointing out that it has been strained by conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. He called for rebuilding efforts to strengthen military readiness against potential aggression in regions like Taiwan.
Furthermore, Moolenaar commented on China's behavior in Southeast Asia, describing it as increasingly assertive. "They're the bully in the neighborhood," he remarked, referring to China's actions affecting countries such as Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines.
The interview provided insights into Moolenaar's perspectives on these pressing issues as they relate to U.S. national security interests.
