During the call, Secretary Blinken reaffirmed the United States' support for a Syrian government led by Syrians. He stressed that all groups within Syria should have the opportunity to participate in a significant political process. The conversation also highlighted the importance of protecting civilians, facilitating humanitarian aid, preventing Syria from being used as a terrorism base or posing threats to neighboring countries, and ensuring any chemical weapons are secured and destroyed safely.
The two leaders also talked about renewed efforts towards achieving a ceasefire in Gaza that includes securing the release of all hostages. Additionally, they reviewed the implementation of the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanon, emphasizing continued support for the Lebanese Armed Forces.
