The U.S. Department of State has announced an increase in the reward offer under the Narcotics Rewards Program (NRP) to up to $15 million for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, also known as "El Mencho." Oseguera Cervantes is a co-founder and current leader of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), a violent drug cartel in Mexico responsible for trafficking fentanyl and other illicit drugs into the United States.
Oseguera Cervantes has been indicted multiple times in the United States since 2017 for drug trafficking. In April 2022, he was charged with engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise, conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl for importation into the United States, and use of a firearm during drug trafficking crimes. He remains a fugitive.
The reward increase is part of efforts by the NRP to support law enforcement in identifying and bringing major violators of U.S. narcotics laws to justice. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) encourages individuals with information to contact them via text or WhatsApp at +1-213-237-9990 or by email at MENCHOTIPS@dea.gov. The DEA is also seeking tips on other CJNG leaders, Audias Flores-Silva and Juan Carlos Valencia Gonzalez, who have Department of State reward offers of up to $5 million each for their arrest and/or conviction.
All identities are kept strictly confidential, and government officials and employees are not eligible for rewards.
